Now those are lookin' real good! The golden inclusions could be rutile or maybe saginite.

Nice amethyst! You got a really good shine. I agree with others - the ones with the gold inclusions are amethyst with cacoxinite. It's not a real common species, but a lot of folks like it for making unique cabochons, myself included.

Thanks for all the great replies, glad you like 'em. I sure wish i spelt AMETHYST correct in my first post though. I knew there was a Y in there somewhere. I got this stuff from a bud in b.c. who cuts geodes and polishes for sale so these bits were mostly cut crystals and chunks that came off when cutting. I'm not sure exactly where he got the raw pieces from though. Amethyst with Cocoxinite eh? Thanks for that, it will give me something new to read and learn about. Now that these are finally finished it frees up a barrel for me to start a tumble on some of that jade i have been finding. I am heading out for another weeks prospecting trip tomorrow and don't think i will have enough time to cut up enough little pieces tonight to get it ready before i go so it may have to wait until i get back. I will be sure to post pics of that project as i progress. Sampson

That is certainly a nice batch. That doesnt look like the normal amethyst sold most places, the gold inclusions are nice.

Very nice job. Ammy is a fun stone to work (when it doesnt chip to heck) Love the gold inclusions- makes for some very showy pieces!

Beautiful Cacoxenite inclusions. Your polish is terrific but on a couple of those pieces, just because the inclusions are so well-displayed, I would be tempted to re-cut the stones as cabochons. I got nothing against Jade but, to me, it is nowhere near as special as this material. And you have some very high quality there. A lot of my Amethyst in Cacoxenite is heavily included so that the golden sprays don't display so well.

I got back from my trip yesterday and was pleased to see so many more people liked these amethyst pics. Today i had time to cut up some pieces of my jade and put it in the tumbler but after a long trip and a couple hours cutting up that jade i was too lazy to take pics so i will try to get some when i re-charge. I was able to find some time in front of the computer and cropped out a few close ups of those cocoxinite inclusions. They are just the same pics but just zoomed in for a little better view of my favorites. Hope you like 'em. I wish i was set up for cabbing properly after hearing comments about cutting and re-polishing but my list of projects is long and my time before my next trip is short so i will have to settle for what i have for now. The more neat rocks i find the more i am convincing myself to spring for a nice cabbing unit so maybe in the future i will re-cut these. Sampson

You have some excellent quality material there! I only have a piece or two with the cacoxenite in it and they are expensive! Great job! Fran
