Howdy, Managed to cut five pieces of wood yesterday before the saw died again. Then of course my camera battery needed recharging so here are pics of some slices of the first two hunks. I'll photograph the others later...Mel Red shrinkwood: This is the stuff being sold as Midnight Sable Wood, a black brecciated type of shrinkwood. When I cut this one I was very excited but after drying it has a lot of micro fractures which are surprisingly, not along the lines of the brecciated hunks but rather in the black and brown wood sections. Probably not good for cabbing but pretty as a specimen.

Mel, pretty slabs! Hey, If you decied to give up that problem child saw. Consider a BD PF-10. I got this saw at Q-site in 2010 and have not had one single problem with it. It's the only saw I've owned other that an 8" trim saw and it cuts a clean slab with an auto feed. Just a suggestion. Hate seeing a guy trying to work with tools that are causing him to back up

gr: Yep, I'm paying the price for not doing more research. Got to admit I didn't know the Barranca folks made a 10 inch saw. Looked it up and I can already see features which I like ie: Extended drain pipe which extends past the end of the table so I wouldn't have to plumb it myself. Higher table walls to prevent oil from leaking out on the floor, cover without holes in it and it looks to have the old tank system without the flow valve. I spent my saw money already on the Covington though, so will have to learn to live with it *sigh*.....Mel
