I bought and shipped from USA a 4.5lb Lot-o tumbler. I have not used it yet as I have been tumbling since last July 2 x 3lb batches of Lakers sent to me from Northshore-Rocks ( Steve ) minus the freezing winter months. Steve and I did a rock swap and I am almost ready with my nice rounded Laker to get a "Whirrl" in the Lot-o. I will post some pictures when they have come through the polish cycle.
I have also made ready some of my Agates & Jaspers from my local beaches. I am now ready to put them into a seperate polish barrel, but I am not sure what to use. I have Tin Oxide & Cerium Oxide what is the best one to use, and can I add both in my polish cycle? I pre-polished using Tripoli that my good friend Jack (Yorkshire) sent me, also will I run the polish cycle for 5-6 days??? Dermot.

I would use the cerium in the rotary and tin in the Lot-o. Anything cerium doesn't polish hit with tin. Now that cerium went sky high maybe it will be tin first (or submicron aluminum). As far as how long, as long as needed. Nobody will complain that you polished them too much.

Cerium Oxide doesn't work well in the vibe units so I would use the Tin Oxide but remember,,,,ONLY 1/2 teaspoon full!
I seem to get a great shine on my rocks if after running in polish for 24 hours I add about 2 table spoons of powdered laundry soap and then run for another 24 hours. You will have to add a little water to the load after adding the soap but be VERY careful to not ass too much! You want a sort of paste look to the "slurry" as the rocks turn.
Good luck,,,,,,,,,

Hi Dermot,

Tom And John have said what I would have said remember just ADD to the tripoly dont wash up I run for 2 days in Polish
Did you do a Burnishing/wash run befor 1000 grit ? they have a good polish on after this . hence my 48 hr polishing

I have to admit to burnishing/wash after 600 grit, I do not have 1000 grit. And I burnish/wash after tripoly then added TO. I could do with a full recipe to follow what is the best one to use.
John where will I get 1000 grit in UK. MM & UKGE don't supply??
Dermot.

I know you mean the other John (Jack) but I would let the 600 break down (at least 48 hours) and then burnish and run the tripoli, burnish and polish.

Hi Dermot, I get my grit from here Nobles in Derbyshire www.applegate.co.uk/all-industry/specialist-abrasive-1390984.htmI have got 80 G and 220G in a 50 Kg bag but I dont know if they do 1000G or the price. I have a fair bit here I will see if I can get you some up Here is a link to Toms (Conrock's) recepie Here is the same recipie in Bikerandys pinned instructions for the bigger vibes , I added Tom's recepie for the smaller (3 1/2 lb) Lot"O" users on Page 4 forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=tottumb&action=display&thread=29369&page=4 Hope all goes well , NOTE, the recepie does NOT require washing after 1000 Grit you just add Tripoly and then polish to the mix + a bit of water, Then wash up in soapy warm water , then put on your sunglasses to stop you getting dazzled at the results ;D All the best Jack Yorkshire UK Ps John above always gives excelent advice ,This is a valid fact on the grit breakdown

John Thanks for the offer. I will just do as other John as suggested and leave the 600 g to break down. You should know a true Scotsman if there is a way to save a penny then that's the way to go!!!!!
Thanks Dermot.
