Howdy folks, Well, another phone call to Covington and I've again readjusted the clutch of the saw and am cutting my wood. The guy, Brian, at Covington is even doing a power feed experiment for me to see how hot the motors run as mine seems to be running pretty hot. Apparently the power in Europe is a bit different and there the motors do run too hot so Covington supplies those saws with a fan cooled housing for the power feed. He says that if that proves to be my problem he will swap me one for my saw but it requires drilling new holes etc so fitting it may be beyond my skill level with machinery. So for now, I just let the motor cool down every hour or so of cutting and that seems to be working OK so far. Anyway, a few slices from today cutting session......Mel Colorful shrinkwood: This shrinkwood looks almost like Dino bone up close. Most solid of today"s cuts too. Closer look: Typical black shrinkwood. Lots of crystal vugs in this hunk: And finally, palm slices with an odd whorled pattern. Heel had a bubbly vug in it. Maybe some kind of palm bud or shoot off the main trunk:

Great looking material. I'd be hopping mad if my brand new saw was giving me that much trouble...

Love the first one Mel and that is about the oddest palm I've ever seen. Sure wish I could do some hounding out that way.

Curt: I seldom find wood around here and what I do find is much more plain than this material. This wood is all from an old gals rock piles and collected by her father many years ago. She said most is from down along the Rio Grande and I think the light skinned pieces probably are but I think a lot is from Matt Dillon's hunting area over around George West, Texas....Mel

Yeah Mel, I was speaking of George West. Too far just to hit the roadsides.

Yeah, I'm wanting to take a drive over there for a hunt too but it's about a three hour drive even from here. Texas is a whopping big state. Want to go over to Brownwood for the fossil coral too but that too is a freaking long haul for a day trip.....Mel
