I found this interesting piece of pet wood in my garden.I cut it in half, the halves are on a 2x4 for size reference. Love the color, may be some variety of palm. I've found this type of wood before here, but is not common. Closeup of the very small dots. This is the other that is similar snuffy

I'm thinking it may be some sort of vine similar to Snake Wood. In fact, it may be Snake Wood though I've never seen one with color. You may have a very rare piece there Snuff. I don't think it's Palm because of the rings.

Curt, you are right,it does have some rings,so palm is out. It's similar to some pieces I gave you a while back, those were brown. My son put photoscape on my computer, now I can crop photos and get better closeups.

That is a fantastic find Snuffy. The only things I ever find in my back yard is petrified raw Hyde chew toys and petrified dog crap. I wonder if there is a market for petrified dog poop cabbs. I guess if I put a spin on it it would sell. Perhaps I can market it as a new type of good luck charm. You know the kind that you have to kiss in order to make it work LOL

Fantastic wood Snuffy! I'm finding some very similar stuff in my pile too. Man, these Texas woods are confusing but Curt's idea of snakewood or some kind of close relative seems pretty on point from what I've been able to research on the internet. Whatever kind it is, those colors in your first specimen are really nice.....Mel

Awesome Snuffy , those are great pieces . As far as the color being a factor for id , It is the minerals in the soil or seeping of mineral laden water that cause the colors , no? . Most of the wood i find here is psaronius , most is brown tones , a couple have had a good amount of red .
