... Well here I am in Arizona, trying to be Americanised by Jo and Bill, but it just ain't gonna darn well happen. (OMG, I think it's started.)
Anyways, today we took a little trek to The Grand Canyon. Scrubbed, polished and shined, and wearing my shorts, and a brand new tee shirt presented to me by the Park Rangers of Homolovi State Park we arrived at the Canyon in slightly worse weather than we left at the Park.
Of course, Jo and Bill had to go up in the car, but Scooby and myself, having been around a bit now, and seen a lickle bit of the world thought it would be a better adventure if we climbed up there instead. Jo and Bill just managed to get there a few minutes ahead of us and snapped us as we came over the top.
Just because we have been riding a bike, it doesn't mean we have to be scruffy and dirty. That's all we are doing, and I'll keep saying it, We're only riding a bike. Anyway, with a little bit of spit and polish, like all things, we both shine up well.
First point of call - Desert View Tower - during the visit here I spied a strange person taking pictures of me and Scoobs, so I snapped one back.
Moving on around the rim was amazing just in itself, without having to view the canyon. My camera is so very inadequate. The sheer size of the canyon prevented me from taking pictures that show both the bottom of the canyon and the top in the same picture, of course with all the other interesting details included.
For those that have met Angie will know how friendly she is. She's supposed to have collected a range of soft toy gifts from various sources. Upon meeting her I immediately made it clear that Scoobs was not interested in her, and that in no way would he leave me to move in with Angie. She wasn't happy about it, but eventually came to accept the fact.
Here she is now, giving Scoobs a friendly hug.
Once she accepted that Scooby wasn't interested, she relented on ignoring me, and gave me a real friendly kiss. Hey, don't knock it 'till you've tried it, and I can assure you I have kissed uglier dogs than Angie.
Lunch came and we went to the El Tovar Hotel for a snack. I never took pictures of the hotel, but I did take pictures of some of the things inside.
Bill had a burger with fries, and here are whats left:
For those in the know - and I'm one of those that definitely knows - this is a Bison. IT IS NOT A BUFFALO, though they are of the same genus they are not to be confused with each other. I'm told that in south Dakota they call Bison Buffalo, but they really are not the same thing.
It was soon time to leave the Canyon, and despite the great cool weather we had, Scooby just had to pose for one last picture before setting off back to the reservation. Jo didn't resist the temptation of taking a quick kiss.
Well, we had a great day at the Canyon, I was going to pass through that way on my way to meet Jo & Bill, but because of the time constraints (Yes, I'm still on a stop clock) I decided to bypass the Grand Canyon and get to Winslow instead. T'was a good decision, because I think I may still be trying to get up and over some of the hills, but it was twice as good because both Jo and Bill were insistant that I couldn't pass through the States without seeing such a World Marvel.
I couldn't have spent such a great day with two more wonderful people. Also, for once it was a fantastic to experience such a place with company.
Modified to include:
Bill had the honour of Standing while the band played the British National Anthem. Of course I had a tear in my eye as I listened to the sounds of 'God Save The Queen' resounding through the Canyon. Such an Honour to hear great music at a great place.
