It was 49 degrees, windy and raining here today... A perfect day to cut some slabs. These are from rocks we found last week when Abigail and I went rock hunting. Speckled Hematite. I can't wait to cab this, I really like the red spots! Quartz porphyry - reminds me of Llanite Puddingstone/Conglomerate ID'd Green schist, but the slab looks like hornfels to me. Hornfels - I found this piece on the other farm where I bagged my turkey last week. I'm gonna cab this and wrap it for the farmer's wife. Thanks for looking, Nate

Thanks guys. I tried slabbing a piece off the end of the pet wood we brought home last week too. It kept breaking, so all I did was get a flat surface so it will stand up on it's own. I told Abigail she gets that piece, as she found it.

Thanks Gary, I've got one of each of those glued up on a stick lol. I'm planning on taking the bike out tomorrow if the weather clears up. If not, I'll try to get these cabbed.

The hematite looks of good quality , and the quartz porphyry Too . i cant see the slab that well , of the schist. When there is a schistose folding , swirling , seen in the rock . even when it is mostly one mineral . that is when it is called chlorite , epidote , biotite , or other schist . because that is the mineral that makes up most of the rock . if there is a mix , then named accordingly . If your rock is green and not schistose , then i say it is greenstone , which is another metamorphic rock . the slab under it is hornfels . The white marble like veining is probably a zeolite mineral . Hornfels with alot of veining is called marble for trade purposes . ;D

Thanks for the info Ted. I sent you a better pic of that slab.
I got the cabs of the speckled hematite and quartz porphyry started this morning. I got them to 600 before going next door to help put up a fence. The speckles in the hematite are undercutting. Hopefully it'll polish up OK. I'm hoping to get 'em done in the next few days.
