Most of the agate that I bought at the kentucky show turned out to be duds. I should have learned my lesson by now that the folks there know with 90 percent certainty the ones that are duds. But every dog has his day , and I cut into one that was , well, tasty. You can see more of my slabs ( including some nice surprises ) at www.digforcrystals.com/slabs/slabs1.html

Now that slab does our state proud! A true thoroughbred!
Congrats on the surprise cut! Glad you had some successes....

irvine, kentucky. Almost impossible to get uncut nodules. If you do, odds are high that you've been sold what they are sure are duds. I think I paid $130 and out of the whole lot there were two good ones. They sell cut nodule halves that are proven good, but they are sky high. I just havent had any luck with them up there. www.digforcrystals.com/mountainmushroom.html that is nothing but a building slap full of very high priced agate.

Mary ann:
If the sun comes out I will show you what we bought at the festival. Rodney is right..very hard to find good stuff reasonably priced. My first KY agate I bought from Rodney! In one of his RTH specials! I will practice on the not so nice ones first and then move on. I heard last weekend at another swap that they actually have fights over which shade of red found on them....higher price for true fire engine red vs. Crayola crayon red, vs Maroon...etc! CRAZY!!!

I call a friend up there about twice a year and ask him to sell me a box of it. He always shoots himself in the foot and kills the sale when he says, "well , it wont be cheap because I know the value of it". see that pile? The one with the two cut nodules on it? Those two shown are just the tip of the iceberg. That pile is as big as a truck and has about 5 thousand pounds of agate nodules. I mean the good ones? They all make it a point of personal pride to get a high price for it or to not sell it. I dont know, but when the economy took a nose dive that agate just decreased in value whether them boys know it or not. Here is a page I made a couple of years ago that has much better pictures. www.digforcrystals.com/kentuckyagate.html
