I planted my garden 2 months ago. With the ongoing drought we have in my area, I have no weed or grass problem, because it hasnt rained enough to sprout the seeds. The early hot weather and winds we had earlier,my tomatoes didnt set worth a flip, I'll have about half of a normal crop. But still plenty to eat. My squash started producing, pretty blossoms A bee visiting on the right flower I buried 1 gal. flower pots between every plant, thats how I water them. One of my helpers The other one. The deer hit me last night, got to set my radio blasting out there and string up my orange plastic fencing around it today. Might try Frans fishing line idea. Thanks for looking. snuffy

Just leave your helpers out there to keep the deer away.
Wish I could send some of our rain to you; we've had our fill.

Fantastic garden Snuffy. Don't know how you do it. My yard looks like stalag 17 with all the game fencing and wire around garden stuff and still the critters get most everything and ours are just ornamentals. I shudder to think how bad it would be if the stuff we grew was veggies......Mel

So glad you got some rain finally, we have had more than our share and we are still supposed to get another 2 inches from Monday thru Friday of this coming week. We still can't get the tiller in our garden, just too muddy but when it drys enough we will be out there working the soil. Can't wait. You are doing a great job in spite of the drought and your helpers are wonderful.

Mr Snuffy, question about your tomatoes. My tomatoes are blooming like crazy but do not seem to be making tomatoes. What kind of fertilizer and when do you apply to get the tomatoes to set fruit? I have read one way is to cut the top out of the tomato plant. Does that make sense? Looking for some help ! ! Would appreciate any info, yours look really great !

I had the problem of little fruit set. We had highs in the 90's and lows in the 70's for weeks with a strong wind blowing.95 and75 is the cutoff temp for fruit set here. Then we had a cooler spell and I got a good set. With the high temps we get here early ,we have to get an early jump. About another 2 weeks, and that will be the end of mine setting fruit. About fertilizer,I cant really answer that. I've hauled thousands of bags of leaves from curbsides in town over the last 38 years, and let them rot and usually I dont fertilize. I know too much fertilizer at the wrong time will cause excess vegetative growth at the expense of fruiting. Good luck

That is a beautiful garden! I love your drought methods and the watering pot is something I will have to remember next year. I am wondering this year if I will ever have to water...We have chance of rain every day this week and they are threatening the possibility of hail today...I sure hope they are wrong! Looks like you have some great helpers there! Fran

Thank you very much for your insight ! We also had a cool snap about a week and half ago. That may the the problem. It was in the 90's here today in the West Georgia area. Your tomatoes are looking great !! Can't wait to have a "mater" sandwich !!!

Finally got three tomatoes going! Not sure yet about when to add fertilizers again. I read more about watering and water at least every 4 days if it does not rain. So maybe this year I will get more tomatoes.

Yellow crookneck and zuchinni. Got 2 meals off of it. We are having temperatures like we normally have in the middle of July. I planted 30 late tomatoes and I doubt I'll get any off them.Fruit set is over here, plants are on the way out, just too hot and the wind howling every day.But I'll get my fill of tomatoes while they last, another few weeks, unless we get a cold snap.Yeah,right.
