I was unloading some extra boxes of stuff I brought from ND and Montana, found a tumbler my Dad had.............Pretty good shape, but seems small to me,it says it can tumble about 3 pounds of rough.its a "Gem Sparkle" Model 3A-NR...20 watts,60HZ & at .40 amps......... Lortone,Inc out of Washington state................Any input would be great at helping me out.... I've never tumbled rocks before, maybe this could start the opening of a cool hobby to learn.......

It's easy enough to start. The 4 step process at the parent site is a pretty good guide. www.rocktumblinghobby.com/cycle/cycle.htmlTry to tumble rocks of similar hardness together. Lake Superior Agates, Bots, or other hard agates are a good starting point because they're relatively easy. Three pounds is a good way to begin until you decide whether it's something you want to do a lot of. Chuck

If you are going to make cabs, you may very well want to tumble too. I started last fall with an old used frantom multi machine (10" saw, 2 SC wheels, exactowheel, and flat leather pad)...so now it has diamond wheels and an expanding wheel.
I hate throwing things away so I've saved all my trim from my slabs and cabs. My husband had a Beacon Star vibrating tumbler and I inherited a home made rotary that he is in the process of pimping out....
Apparently a lot of tumbling people got into it as a way to recycle their scrap...who doesn't like pretty rocks?

Hey thanks my rockhounding friends........................(thumbs up) Oh ya' found another tumbler, but the frame and little amp motor was burnt out on it,so I kept the barrel (same size) and stripped it down for parts.........Threw the body and motor away... ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)
