There was a pile sale that the Sacramento, CA mineral club was having. At 10cents a pound I couldn't possibly pass it up. I went out with a local club member in her truck (good thing). I wasn't sure what to expect. I was thinking little pile with who knows what the rocks were. Well, I got there and turned into a giggling kid in about 10 minutes. The thing is massive, and the rocks are great. There's so much variery. I was drawn to the Montana agates, lavic jasper, some interesting green moss agate nodules, graveyard point, and some cool pet wood, but there was so much more. We brought lots of buckets and used just about every one.
I had a chance to meet Colt and Peachfront. She was trying to hold back in order to get it all on the plane and selecting her rocks very carefully finding the best ones. It was great the meet and chat. But as with rock sales, the conversation is cut short after you are bent over looking through a pile of rocks. Colt was there also and had a blast, picking out some real treasures. He also showed me some of this chain male jewelry he makes- awesome designs! We also met Terry, rocksrockme I think, who is part of the Sacramento club. She was very nice and made sure we had water and snacks so we wouldn't pass out from rock-exhaustion. They have a great club and I got to chat with some of the members.
They are having a sale next weekend and an open house on the 11th. I really want to make it to the open house. Anyone in the Sacramento area should check this thing out. I really want to go but sneaking a load of rocks into the backyard would be tricky ;D
Oh, and Peach, if you feel you missed out because you need to fly back out, I will gladly send you some rocks!
Steve
Here's the pile:
Rock buddy from the local club finding goodies:
Cool pet wood chunk I found:
Colt diggin around
Terry coming over for a rock ID
closeups... lots of great rocks. The more you dig, the better they get! Here's a lot of pet wood
Obsidian, lots of it sheen. I got a couple rainbows and my pal found an amazing purple chunk.
Our haul. This whole truckload was $130! The springs were near flat.
My haul. It weighed in at 1077 pounds! I think I need a bigger tumbler. I'll get some photos of the rocks when I start sorting through them.
