i was anticipating the delivery of a new custom cab shaft thursday made by one of the fine members of rth. when i got home i saw the plastic pipe laying on my deck. cool its here. as i got closer to it i noticed it was empty. boy was i steamed, what dumba$$ delivered a piece of plastic pipe? sticker on pipe said it was 11 lbs. maybe 1 lb. when it got to me. fabricator explained to me how it was packed up and threaded ends had to be unscrewed and untaped to be removed from plastic pipe. oooooUPS is now looking into it. just another s-=//y day in paradise.

wow, that's aggravating! Sorry to hear. What are they "looking into"? That sounds like a throw away phrase from a line supervisor.

Kind of like " a representative will be contacting you in next 24-48 hours" like the USPS.

I know these guys have to be wary of fraud, but a little excellent customer service would go a long way to making lifetime customers out of most of us. Rather than having to go through a month-long hassle to get re-imbursed, all the while it being suggested that we're being dishonest - wouldn't it be refreshing for them to say "You're right, having an empty plastic tube delivered is idiotic. You're package was insured, so I'm sending a check out today. Sorry for the inconvenience. We'll have a talk with the driver."
Probably never happen. But if it did. Wouldn't you be singing the praises of the carrier? I would.

Oh that's frustrating!!! Luckily I haven't had any problems with UPS yet but I've had USPS packages delivered to completely different addresses. Good luck, hope you are able to get this resolved quickly.

Yes Mark that stinks and if "They" decide it is there fault You have to prove to them how much it's worth. Here are some pics of how it was packaged. Sent some just like it last year with no problem. Next one I ship to You will not have the washers or will tape them to the outside. I will glue caps on the plastic pipe, leaving space on one end so the pipe cap can be sawn off. Bolted togather with bolts and washers both ends straping tape over bolts

UPDATE
per Manager of the UPS store, UPS denied claim, due to packaging. The manager said He got ahold of them and told them they needed to pay. And they are going to. Sure glad I took pictures of how it was packed and gave it to Him. He said I should get my money in a couple of weeks. I have to e-mail Him the notification I got from Pay-pal showing the dollar amount I recived. He also did not charge me for the shipping the replacment shaft to Mark today. Moral of this story Take pictures before You ship. Mike
6-10-2011 UPS PAID ON THIS CLAIM. And Mark recived His shaft. Mike

UPS moves a lot of packages, and does it perfectly almost every time. In my experience however, if there are damages they automatically decline the claim saying "poor packaging".
I once shipped a expensive oversize item, and due to the value had UPS inspect and approve the packaging to ensure they would cover the value. My customer on the other end received the package in good shape, but changed his mind and returned the item (he didn't even open the package). When I received it, the box looked as though it had been pushed off the truck going 60 mph! I filed a claim which was promptly denied due to poor packaging. I had to call UPS and explain that they had initially inspected and approved the packaging... at which point they suddenly approved the claim. We ship a lot of ground packages, and although I still use UPS on occasion, I much prefer FedEx.

Good Ole UPS - Hate them. Both shipping and getting packages. The one and only package I shipped last year was a Frantom Combo Unit which was mounted to 1" thick plywood.... I pack everything of mine very well and they still managed to break the plywood in half? How??? I have no clue but it tool alot of force to break the ply. At anyrate I insured it and wanted to replace the wood for the customer, they faught me all the way and when I finally got the insurance claim I stuck it to them. I charged them for a new sheet of ply - shop rate for cutting and mounting it, anything I could think of and ran a bill up for a couple hundered bucks for my customer and believe it or not they did pay my customer!
As far as recieving packages - I have never had a package show up when it's supposed to. The day the tracking says it's to be delivered you wait and wait, and finally check tracking and it's rescheduled for deilvery.
Then prices - a few months ago I ordered a Estwing Geo-Paleo pick for my shop. Between my wholesaler price and what they retail for there is $11.00 profit - Out of that I pay freight so my profit margin drops - UPS Charged me $17. and some odd cents to ship one pick! So I lost $6.00 from my pocket just to order a hoe-pick - So I could not sell that one and kept it for myself. I found another wholesaler and again I ordered the same pick along with 10+ pounds of rocks and they shipped fed-ex and the freight was just shy of $6.00 for everything...
Hate UPS!
