We finally had a break in the weather after weeks of rain. All creatures (and rock hounds alike) were taking advantage of the sun. This little fellow was guarding the path to Cape Sharp. He didn’t even seem to mind a close-up. No one was moving him from his spot. The waters in the Bay are still only a few degrees above the freezing point, so it makes for some interesting conditions. Often the returning tide brings cold water and air along with it. When the cold air collides with warm moist air, fog can put an end to your sunny day. This is Partridge Island off in the distance. The basalt cliffs are about 250 feet at their highest point. These are a few of my favourite things. Did I mention that it was amygdaloidal basalt full of dykes and sills that were later filled with zeolites, quartz, agate, and jasper? Darryl.
