Some of you may remember I was supposed to go to Redmond, Washington last July but things came up with my sister-in-law so I had to cancel the flight just before take off. anyway, had to make good on the ticket before July so I am heading that way next week. Anyone know of any rockhunting within an hours drive (or so) of redmond? Thanks!

Hansen Creek for clear and amethyst quartz crystals (digging and sifting mostly), Walker Valley for geodes quartz nodules and some agates (Hard rock digging), Greenwater area for agate and jasper (loose rock and dirt), First creek and red top on Blewett pass for agate and geodes Red top may have snow still but both are about an hour and half plus away. and Saddle Mountain is about two and a half. Hansen creek is the closest to you at about 45 minutes. Walker Valley is a little over an hour, and Greenwater is about an hour and a half. I know for sure that Walker Valley, First Creek, and Saddle Mountain have no snow, Hansen Creek should be almost clear, as well as Greenwater, But Red Top is probably still covered.

It's a couple hours drive north but skagit has a great club with friendly people that will take you to dig agate and amethyst crystals. About 30 minutes from Redmond is seattle and there used to be a very good rock shop north on the bay. And of course you gotta make the drive to pikes place market and that crazy fish slinging place. The coffee kiosks everywhere in Seattle are pretty cool.
I keep telling my wife I'd like to take her there to visit as that place is really different. On the map, it is the farthest one cant get from atlanta, ga and still be in the USA.

Thanks guys! I have printed out your replies. My sister-in-law or her husband will surely know where these places are, he is an avid hiker.

If you check out Skagit County (the location of walker valley) then certainly visit the many beaches for agate, jasper, jade and various other glacial till that washes up. Both Bowman's Bay and Rosario Beach are my favorite spots to beach comb for tumble material. Whidbey Island (west side, around Fort Ebey) is supposed to have some really nice carnelians, too.
