Nice gravel! Folks around here say that rattlers are less prone to buzz nowadays because it attracts hogs, which like to eat them. Good eye!

Jo, good eye! I enlarged the pic and there is a bulge just behind its head where it crosses its body. Gem'n 1 the closest place would be Medicine Hat Alberta. About 90 miles or an hour drive if needed.
Rocklicker,I have been pricing out snake boots. They are $$$. Just might have to give myself a late birthday gift. Any of you folks in snake country know of a good place to get a pair of good boots?

I saw some at Bass Pro Shops along with gators. But I'm sure someone on here knows of a better place. Jo

Some sporting goods stores carry snake gaiters. I bought mine through Forestry Suppliers, Inc. They have a good selection, and good prices. Shipping is quick too. Check them out at www.forestry-suppliers.com/ There's a link where you can order a free catalog. Don

I just bought a sturdy pair of high top work boots from Tractor Supply, and then ordered a pair of snake gaiters from Forestry Suppliers. Mine are the Wind River Ultralight. I'm not trying to push Forestry Suppliers, but I was very happy with their prices and service. They carry a wide range of the snake gaiters, snake chaps and snake boots. Be warned in advance that any of them are very hot to wear, But the added protection is well worth a little bit of discomfort. I'd suggest getting gaiters with the flap that covers the toe of your boots. The last thing you want is a P.O'd rattlesnake that has caught a fang in your boot laces. Don

I bought my snake gaiters at a feed store for $35, cheap insurance.

We have lots of snakes around here and they usually don't mess with you if you don't get to close. They are just as afraid of us as we are them.

At 50° very unklikly to strike unless really pestered, but still better to give him a wide bearth than risk a nasty bite, Man I'm glad we don't have too many of those little beasties around here.
