It has been smokie in Holbrook for three days now! Evacuating the town of Alpine. Two fires going and have consumed 300 square miles in area.

I was looking at Google maps and this looks like it's southeast of Holbrook. Are you folks in any danger? Any evac notice going out? It looks like it's far enough away but 300 square miles ... dang ...

I saw this on the news this weekend, sounds like it is going to be a long, hard fight. I was shocked when they said it had been burning for a month. God bless those nearby.

Wouldn't take a fire long to travel that distance with the right (or wrong) wind. Would it?

Toad, no it wouldn't! We're suppose to have 40 to 45 mph gusts today from the south and we live to the N W of that fire.

I was just listening to the reports and they said this thing could blow up today because of the wind and dry thunder storms could spark more fires..........

Man this really sucks! A monster that could rival the Rodeo fire from a few years back. Alpine and this side of Luna is Christa's and my favorite getaway from the big shitty city. A five hour drive but worth it with all the cool big pines, deer, elk and agates. Out camping people are usually few and far between. Just one careless moment.. Lucky for Holbrook the only trees around there are petrified. Though I'm sure with all the tall dead grasses and the winds one spark could spell disaster. I heard they evacuated Greer today. Gotta hope we get an early monsoon.

Ditto that, Brian. Love camping/hounding in Luna area. This fire is awful. We have smoke so thick in Albuquerque it's blotting out the sun...blowing right straight from the fire into the Rio Grande valley. I can't breathe. It seriously looks like the end of times. Ugly.

Dang that's awful. I used to love camping in that high country and hiking in SE Arizona. We're having some real red sunsets even here in Texas and I wonder if we're getting a little of that smoke. Course we have a lot of fires here this year too....Mel

I wish we could send some water down south for you all. It's flooding here. Between the snow melting and the recent rain, rivers are almost all at or above flood stage. Fortunately I don't live close to any rivers. Keep safe all.
