Might want to check with the BLM before hitting places in Washington. A lot of the best spots have been closed to rock hunting, due to greedy people digging holes along sensitive salmon breeding streams, and messing up the water.

Don;
That would be Lucas creek, Washington. Weyerhaeuser timber had the gate locked on the area. Because people dug the river banks muddying the river, and killing seedlings. BLM.
Another area By Castle rock Washington
The same has happened on Chandler Mt Sweethome Oregon.
Roger Mt Scio Oregon shut down for the same reason - un-safe digging a tunneling.

Actually, in terms of plentiful, big, glassy fracture-free pieces, Paint Rock Agate and Carnelian might be the best. Sporting an actual red color and even saturation, this to me is a lot prettier than the wierd orangey & yellow colors that some call carnelian. For lots of pictures of of true red carnelian from this occurrence, have a look at this page: www.digforcrystals.com/paintrockagate.html A teaser photo:

M-21. to slow, I did a up-grade. this is a real USGS, government survey car, used in the late 50s. i found it locally, For 350.00 in 1974. The hood fins were cut down, To keep from poking hole in maps. It had a inline 230 - or 235, 6 cylinder. seventeens rock hound partner. Some of the Carnelian was collected in this car then.. Now this is West Coast material. From the rotten Basalts that are 70% Silica. And hemaite rich iron basalt. A lot of the material was still forming in the strata i dug it out of. Jack
