I looked around a bit while I was up there fishing. Saw a little jasper that was kind of mottled pink/red, nothing special. I did meet a geologist a couple of years ago that told me several areas have stream beds full of nice coral in limestone that sounded different from the stuff that comes from one of the Alaskan Islands. Huge state with lots of variations in geology but I think it's just not hunted very much due to the remoteness, lack of good roads, weather and friggin man eating mosquitoes.....Mel

Mel I worked up there for 2 years and my wife and I have taken 4 fishing trips up there but I WASNT a rock person then , so all the rocks got kicked thrown or left alone we going back up there next summer for 10 days my head will be bent down looking . I found a site that tells where a lot of different collectors go to hunt rck but as in all cases have to take with a grain of salt the state is huge and to find a certain spot with out gps is gonna be hard . still cant wait to get there !

the things I hear about most often in Alaska is gold prospecting, of course, plus that really nice Jade that they were mining for a while...
Probably tons of great stuff, but as has been said, it's real remote...
