I got messed up using this on a batch I didn't leave in the 60/90 long enough, but was REALLY impressed with the shine. Who on board is using this, and where are you getting it? And is Titanium Dioxide the same stuff? Thanks! -Banjo-

Ah, you've come back to Titanium oxide huh? Good move. However, don't use it on tigers eye. It won't bring out the full shine. Use Cerium oxide instead. I prefer Titanium oxide only for agates, jaspers and moonstone. I have just the website for you: www.minersmall.com/_products/rock/polishes/polish.html I also ordered some SISA Pre-Polish (Extra fine silica pre-polish) as I'm not too fond of 500 SC. I have yet to try it out however... But I will as soon as it gets to my house.

Yes, I have returned. I am not too big a man to eat crow when it is served. The shine I had with it has yet to be matched with the cerium or tin I used, and it was my own impatience that left me with pits full of polish, that I re-ran through Aluminum Oxide pre-polish then cerium; but it wasn't even close to the shine the titanium had given them before I botched it up I am a better man, now. (But that's relative, I guess)

I actuall use a jewlers loupe to monitor the effects of different polishes as they go along. There's a lot the naked eye can't see. It's a wise investment if you don't already have one.
I agree though, the tin oxide doesn't work as good on some rocks, like agate for example. I was quite suprised when I figured this out. Tin oxide is supposed to be the "best" polish on the market. But when I look at the agate I've polished with it through a jewlers loupe, they're still dull and unimpressive. I'm convinced that tin oxide should only be used for softer stones. On the other hand, the agates I've done with titanium oxide have flawless mirror-like surfaces. Clean up is a pain in the ass, but the pay-off is well worth it.

Hopefully I have learned to run these in the 60/90 long enough, and I now know first hand what the rocks will look like when you send them through with flaws. I got the polish ordered and even added 5# of SASI. I want to cover all my bases on this next load. Thanks for your help, James.

No problem Banjo. I see you got the 5# of SASI too? It looks like we both ordered the same exact stuff. We'll see how it works huh?

OK, James- Just got a call from Miners Mall. Lortone no longer offers Titanium Oxide. Do you have a plan "B"? 'NUTS'!! {modify} Went to Rocks and Things, and got 10# for 47.50, with shipping, coming to $57.63 total from Minn. to Az.

Ok, I just now called her and she said the same thing. So I went ahead and changed my order to 1 lb cerium and 5 lbs of SISA pre-polish. Done... Plan B: I called the guy at www.rocksandthings.com/ and placed an order for 2.5 lbs of Titanium oxide. Give him a call. He was quite a nice fellow. I like his webpage too. You'll have to order by phone though. His order form is a printable "mial in."

10# of Titanium oxide? Wow, that is like enough to last you 20 years! Well, if you recycle it anyway. Looks like you'll nead a bigger tumbler. ;D

Thaks for the comment on the jaspers btw. That was only after 4-1/2 days of polishing too.
Did you see the Texas limb cast agate pics? Those really illustrate the effectiveness of Titanium oxide on agates.

Those are beautiful...Now thats what I want. and I hope to tumble for many years. If this works like I think it will, and since Lortone isn't carrying it, I figure I might as well get while the gettins good!
