Blanks?? Or old stock??
Do any of you buy your knives as blanks or do you use old knives and take off the wood?[glow=red,2,300][/glow][glow=red,2,300][/glow]

Tammy, the easiest would be go to Wal-mart and buy a Buck 110 (about $29) and grind the 3 brass pins a little that hold the scales on. Then take a utility knife and go between the scales and the brass liner and pry (gently) to remove the scales. Be careful not to damage the brass liner. Sometimes it helps to add a SMALL screwdriver into the slot made by the utility knife and turn it to put pressure on the scales to help remove. I use painters tape to tape up the blade so that I don't get cut. Use the old scales as a pattern. The only hard part is getting the ends to fit the bolsters properly. When you get it to fit, rough grind it out close and then use 2 part epoxy (devcon 5 min.) to glue the scales to the knife. In about 15 min. they are ready to finish grinding and polishing. If you sand into the bolsters, they will polish out just like the stone and the brass will NOT hurt your diamond wheels. After you finish your knife, use white rouge for stainless on a muslin buff to polish out the brass.
