Beautiful, Mike! Took me a second to realize you meant coral & not coal. Was trying to figure out how you could be digging through coal until I read on! I do like the combination of the turquoise & coral!

Heh heh, yes, until I saw the photo, I was expecting a piece with jet in it. However, I truly like this piece.

Ok guilty I forgot the "r" Teach me to proof read better LOL. I'm a better silversmith than I am a speller anyway LOL Always did better in shop class than acidemics (only reason I graduated High School probably "A"s in shop classes)
Thanks all for your kind comments. This is a good example of the KISS principal. "Keep it simple stupid" Let the stone & coral speak for them selves with minimal "other stuff". I just let the pieces tell me what they want to be. Mike

Nice piece Mike On first look I was wondering how you got the rings around the coral. Thanks for the explanation. Don

Another beautiful piece Mike! So... out of curiousity, how long did it take you to polish that coral by hand? I am amazed that you do that with wet/dry, gosh.... Krystee

Krystee not really very long. You cut off the smaller stubs with the Fordom & diamond blades. Then grind them off with diamond burrs. You can leave some if you want more of a nobby look. Like I did at the ends. Then go over it with a rubberized abrasive wheel in the Fordom to even out the surface & get rid of unwanted surface texture. Then starting with about 220 wet & dry. Start sanding to even out the grinding. A couple of different grits just like on the wheels to 2,000. Then hit it on the buffer with Zam. Of course it gets more buffing while you're buffing the piece any way. Really it seems it takes longer to type this than it does to do it LOL I have arthritis in my hands & thumbs in particular. So if I can do it you can too LOL Mike
