My wife's family reunion is held at Lake Somerville every year for a several days get together. This lake is about a 12,000 acre impoundment for flood control with 85 miles of shoreline. There is no private development around the lake, all open.I covered maybe a mile and a half of it,not much of a rockhounder in July. This lake is 50 miles from my house in the next county over. This is what the shoreline looks like now with the ongoing drought. The lake is around 5 feet low. The other direction. This one wouldnt fit my saw so I left it. My coffee thermos for scale Dang left these too. Brought back about 60 lbs of pet wood, smaller pieces. Interesting piece.? Pieces of palm about equals my lifetime finds of it. Found this one on my birthday, what a present. This chunk weighed 3 and a half lbs. My newest grandson with his great aunt. My 2 grandkids seated at the table being waited on by their cousin. My oldest grandson standing behind my daughter. Normally when we go there every year, the lake is full or close to it and dont get to rockhound. Thanks for looking. snuffy

Awesome Snuff! Great loooking Family. Glad you got to do a little rockhounding...and you found some awesome stuff. Congrats on the Palm Wood piece. In the 5th pic down...Old Bottle or someones recent Litter? One other thing....I work out in the heat as well...but it's much funner to play in it and I can handdle the heat a whole lot better when I'm PLAYING in it! Thanks for sharing your Family with us. steve

That palm wood is sweet. Glad you had a chance to rockhound as well as visit with family. I might have been tempted to keep rockhounding with an occasional dip in the lake to cool off although with the heat there I'll bet that water isn't that cool.

Sounds like you all had a great time! That's terrific! And an awesome haul to boot! Too bad you didn't have a bobcat or something to help load those petrified wood stumps... Paul

The palmwood sure put icing on this cake. Even if it ended up in the garden, I would have managed to get that big piece of petwood in the truck. Woody

I never like the droughts but man, you can sure find some great stuff when the water is so low! Got to at least enjoy what the "drought" has to offer! Looks like you have some wonderful finds there along with a beautiful family! Fran

Snuffy, your daughter is beautiful and her kids are all precious except that old one, he's handsome. Looks like a successful rockhounding trip and still plenty of time for the family. Thanks for inviting us along. Gotta love that palm and 3 lbs of it at once. Wow!
