I bought a block of Soapstone to attempt carving. This is the result. I went for a more modern art type carving. It stands a little over 3" tall. Thanks for looking.

Well done. Did it start out as a bear?

Yes, it basically worked out as I planned it. The only thing that I would change if I was to do it over again would be to add more detail such as paws, but on this I decided that the simple polished stone would look the best.

That's really nice work. Many pieces don't need a lot of detail. More of an impresionistic design nicely done. Leaves something to the observers mind to fill in. I'd say he was a grizzly from the hump over his front shoulders. Mike
