I've been making regular trips to a rock pile sale a couple hours from me. This was the third run a couple weeks ago. This time I took the car and carefully calculated its load capacity. The first time I went to the sale, everything was 10 cents a pound. This time, it was advertised at 5 cents a pound! The really insane surprise came when I showed up and it was free! Yes, no cents a pound. I was told it was because I was part of a rock club. Well, I still ended up making a donation anyway.
So I started in. My wife was with me so I wasn't going to be able to spend a lot of time there. I was expecting to shovel-and-go. Well, turns out that becasue this rock sale has been going on for a number of weeks, the whole top layer of the pile was taken off. So basically a fresh layer of cool and pretty rocks were available! It was like a new pile all over again! I got some really cool stuff. Lots of nice agates, jaspers and pet wood along with some nice rainbow obsidian. After it was all said and done I went home with 625 pounds of rocks, 10 buckets full. The car did fine on the way home, except for the gas meter. The MPGs were lower than usual so it was a little off on the "miles remaining" gauge. I had to stop for gas on the way home.
It was a great day. I saw Colt, a usual at the rock pile and some local club members. I am debating on making another run, but I think I am going to hold off (yes, I'm OK, really). In total, I've come back with a ton of great rocks from the pile over three trips.

Here's the day's haul:
Check out this cool cart I got for moving rocks around. I was testing out it's load capacity
Cool large jasper
Montana agate:
Graveyard point agate:
Pet wood:
Lavic jasper, a favorite of mine:
Interesting red and green thing:
Agate nodules:
Here are some very interesting agate nodules I know nothing about. Any ID's on these would be appreciated. They are moss agates, but in nodule form. Some ofthem look like Maury mountain, but not in massive, easily breakable chunks. These are medium sized nodules. Some have green, red, or grey inside. They often have moss or some kind of patterns, and almost never any banding. They are very pretty.
Here's one from another trip:
Some cool green rocks Mrs. Rocklicker picked out:
And here's the most amazing sight of the day! This is truly unbelievable. My wife actually got into the pile and was looking for rocks! Yes, Mrs Rocklicker picking out rocks! Maybe she was trying to get out of there faster or the heat got to her, who knows. She might deny it, but I saw her digging around with my own eyes! I have proof! You saw it here first ;D
Aww, she's the best. ;D
