just wanted to say "howdee" to everyone on the forum! found the forum a while back when a friend pointed out the agate database that is posted on this forum. awesome database, too!! and, i admit, i've been lurking and reading posts and admiring pics, too. i'm jan, and my husband and myself live in lagrange, ga, home of the hogg mine and smith's xtl field. unfortunately, i haven't been playing in the dirt at either locations--yet. hopefully, will head out there when the weather isn't so darned hot. have collected gemstones and rocks for several years now. after handpolishing a welo opal with different grits of automotive sandpaper (wet) and cerium oxide, i decided to purchase a used cabmate (still under waranty, too) with lots of extras included with it. right now, i'm teaching myself how to cab. looking forward to meeting all of y'all!

The folks here have been helpful, gracious and really encouraging. I get somewhat impatient waiting (and waiting and waiting) for the right time to move the rocks to the next stage and often need someone to bring me back to reality! Hope it cools down soon so you two can get out and do some digging! Paul

A big Texas howdy to you. Be warned-it is addictive. If you've got questions or want rocks, you've come to the right place. Welcome aboard

Welcome to the forum. Need to go on www.dirtyrockhounds.proboards.com and check out all the digs they go on in your area. The Graves Mtn. dig will be in Oct. The roundup in Asheville is going on right now, in conjunction with the Grassy Creek Rock Show in Spruce Pine, NC. Get out and dig. Ken

Welcome to the board !! The best information on any phase or rock tumbling, minerals, cabbing, you name it is found here on the RTH. I was raised in LaGrange near Hillcrest Elementary School. One of the first places I collected was at Smith's crossroads. It has been called Stephens and Moore's crossroad also. I was 10 years old when I first went to the Hogg mine. I am now 30 and half years old . . . times 2 !! LOL. They're several locations in Troup County to collect along the roads and along West Point Lake. I know you will enjoy the RTH. Exceptional folks here, fill like they are all my brothers and sisters !! Again Welcome

Gosh, I think I need to reintroduce myself to y'all since I haven't posted very much since I joined the board.  One thing I forgot to mention is that I read lots and lots of posts on the forum and have learned a lot from y'all. I purchased my CabMate (used) after reading Shannon's (weeshan?) review of the machine in the sales ad on the forum. Welcome to the board !! Wondering what kind of rocks did you find to bring home in Trapp County? Went fishing at West Point Lake recently. Wondered if the Corps of Engineers might possibly arrest me if I carried some rocks home, lol.
