On the way home from a vacation in northern California, I stopped off at a rock shop seen from the highway. The place was called "Chapmans Gem & Mineral supply". While checking out their huge supply of stones I came across an incredible slab of Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper. I have never seen one this quality before, couldn't take my eyes off it. Here are some photos, it's worth going to if your in your in the area.

Thanks for the fix, Randy. Wow, some great looking stuff there. Itching to take a hammer to the morgan hill - would fill up a 12-pounder several times over... ;D

Now that's more like it. Very solid looking hunk of MHPJ. Remember that year we met at Snyders Tony? That year someone had a huge boulder on a trailer. Must have weighed a couple thousand pounds but fractured as all get out like usual....Mel

About 15 miles south of Eureka, CA Lots of piles of rocks outside to pick through, too. Bob

Steve, If you consider "anywhere near" as being within a quite a few hundred miles, then yes it is. Barstow is in the south eastern part of the state, Eureka is on the north west coast. Bob

A couple of hundred miles is what we call spittin' distance in this part of the country. :-/Unfortunately it now costs around 85 bucks to drive spittin' distance around here.
