Hello, everyone! We are back home from our vacation with Karen. All of us had a wonderful time. We traveled a lot, saw a lot of places. Karen enjoyed it very much, or at least that's what she told us Here are some pictures from two locations. Firstly, a castle which she visited in the beginning of our vacation. It's named Peles castle. It was built in the late eighteen hundreds. You can see Karen here. No smile on her face, as the hike to the castle was uphill and endless, as she says. "All in Romania is uphill" Some picture from inside this castle (some are blurred 'cause no flash was allowed inside): And, a few days after that, another visit to another city, a medieval town pretty well preserved up to our days (Sighisoara) We were lucky to have been visited this place right when the medieval festival took place, so there were a lot of vendors and all the girls could shop till drop: We found some old fashioned printing press, which of course Karen found fascinating: And, during this festival we were able to see a lot of knights just walking on the old narrow streets or even dueling with each other: Some more pics to come, but not today as we all help Karen for her preparations for her flight back home tomorrow. Thanks for looking, Adrian

Should I understand these pics above left you speech-less? Here are some more. During our trip, we also visited a salt mine. Firstly, here's a picture with some data about this mine: The galleries are really BIG, it's like being in a high cathedral. Plus, the patterns in the salt walls: Here's the ceiling: All is made of salt down there, including some sculptures: They were also building a wall of salt, right next to the elevator (yes, it's a 600 feet bumpy descent with an elevator) There were also some windows with some neat crystals of gem salt and local amber: I hope you enjoyed the underground ride. The salt mine was the first AHHH!!! Air Conditioning American Style for me! It was a nice, balmy 12 C. Plus it was really, really cool. The salt looks like quartz, but it tastes salty when you lick it. Yep, we licked it. Pick a wall, any wall. It's all salt. Even the floor. We did not lick the floor (just so ya know that!) And I was happy at Peles. The sun was in my eyes! (and my calves were on fire!). It WAS amazing, and worth the uphill!

Though she may not be smiling, the look on Karen's face at the castle is one of sheer determined triumph.
These pictures are so rich in color and texture and cultural history. I really enjoyed this virtual trip so thank you for taking all of us. Karen, you are so fortunate to have experienced this first hand. Have a safe journey home.

Karen, why don't you prove with a pic the fact that all the walls are salt? Lori, she's safe home by now, even if some of the goodies she planned to bring home didn't pass the vigilent Denver customs Adrian
