My name is Scott Solar and I started in the "rockhobby" because I want to use stones as handles for knives I am making. Nonetheless, I have gone beyond that starting to make spheres. I started going to the Pomona lapidary school. They cut back to one day a week on a day I cannot go.
My current purpose is this:
#1) make a sphere machine (I have the gear motors) #2) make a stacked diamond blade grinder #3) make a large bladed "tile" saw for making the preforms
My intent is to use the cutoff from all this material as tumble stones as part of the display.
Until I have made all these machines I am accumulating stones from the San Gabriel Mountains and the Victorville, CA area, and wherever else I decide to go. Psilomelane in the low desert looks good! Dove season opener in three weeks and I'll be close to the deposits.
I have a terrific selection of materials (marble, travertine, actinolite, tremolite, a very sweet black/green jade, a hunk of orange/white moss agate, a chunk of green/white dendritic agate) and will be gathering more.
Is anybody near Chino, CA? Could use access to a larger than 10" saw. Will pay for priviledge.
Oh yeah, and I will still be making knives! lol

Hi Scott,
Looks like you like running around these California mountains and deserts as much as I do. Seems like there is a lot of good stuff out where you are at. Welcome from Bakersfield!!!
