.... and some comments. Besides the 30 mph winds and swirling fog and 56 degree temperature on Friday during the setup of our case the weather wasn't all that bad. The show was at a new venue at the Presidio, a very beautiful old army base that the military no longer utilizes. The building was the officer's club and it and the supposedly better parking was the main improvement that the club advertized this year. The building was beautiful but somewhat smaller than I was expecting. It was rather crowded as we struggled to set up the case but the people around us were very polite and accommodating. The parking was definitely much more available.... except it was 200 feet up the hill.
There were fewer dealers and exhibits than I had encountered in the past because the building was smaller. Only one dealer has any notable slabs and rough and he was selling it BY THE GRAM!!!!! Is this a new trend??? The only purchase that I made during the show was a book on Agates.
Even though there were fewer displays, those that were there continued to be of high quality.
This one is a display of a Jade assemblage.
The California Academy of Sciences had a number of displays. This one appealed to me. I love Mediterranean Red Coral.
Ocean Jasper anyone?
Jewelry.
A view of the dealer floor in one of the three dealer rooms from the balcony. Beautiful view of the surrounding former army base.
We visited with our daughter in San Jose over the weekend and brought our grandson with us to the show. He is interested in Army things and guns so he got to wander around a bit on the base and see some of the big guns on display. This is one was used by the Philippine soldiers during the Spanish American War in 1898. It had a bit of a mishap.
Even though the show was a bit of a disappointment we had a lot of fun.
