Morning all,
as you may be aware I use Rez belts on 8" expanding drums (resin impregnated belts for use with diamond paste).
They are now starting to stretch so much so that they wander off the drum and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if they found a way of securing the belt to the drum or is just time to change the belts.
Thanks in advance
Dave

If all the belts seem too loose you might check the drum. They expand less when the rubber dries out. You can increase speeed a little also.

You may also have your drums on backwards. The sides of the drums are slotted at an angle. If the slots face out and down the drum will expand. If out and up, the drum will shrink in size.

if it a small amount just pop an old used SC belt on first to take up space -- i usta put one under my leather belts to stop them from stretching out when wet from polish -- but after the first one popped i put one under them before they stretched out don't know how well it will work now might make it worse

Hi Fellers, thanks for your replies, I have double checked the drums are fitted correctly and they are running at about 1500 rpm, so could look at speeding them up a bit, but the trouble is they start to wander when I switch the machine on. I will try putting some old well used sic belts underneath the rez belts first to see if that does the job, but they are really stretched so not holding too much hope on that idea. I guess the material they are made from just stretches more than that used for sic belts, the one I have are Raytech and I have also seen some called crystalbelts ( www.sfjssantafe.com/items.php?Gid=488&ItemSet=Lapidary&DepId= ), anyone used these at all and do they stretch quickly? Will let you all know how I get on. Cheers Dave

Expando drums should be ran at 1700-1800 RPM. No faster or slower. With mine I generally have to hold the belt on the drum while starting, it's fine after that.

when you do get new belts put an old 100 gt belt under them from the begining and it stops the drum from opening so much that the belts stretch
