For those of you that like Montana agate, this is a great site to check out. Rising Sun Wholesale is an outfit in Billings. I have not been there, but found this web page. It details a multi-million dollar MT agate project they started. They are decking everything out in agate. No updates since 2009, don't know if they finished it or not. The site also has a lot of links to great photos, including three giant tumblers used on the job. www.risingsunwholesale.com/million.htm

I had to laugh at this: "The total Montana Agate used in this project is estimated to be in the neighborhood of 20 tons which will include between 25,000 and 50,000 highly polished Montana Agate Cabochons. Rising Sun Wholesale has been collecting Montana Agate for several years. Montana Agate values have soared with its increasing scarcity."
Well, go figure when you use 20 tons of them in your project! LOL
Cool to see, though. That's quite an endeavor.

Yes, I would say it seems a bit over the top... even though they may have taxed the supply of agate for a couple of years the nice thing about MT moss agate is that as it is found in alluvial gravels over a wide area it will never be played out. I would like to borrow their tumbler though, for some big rough. I wonder how much the grit would cost for one batch...would have to steam clean it between grinds. "The Tumbler will handle 2 1/2 tons of agate and is powered by a 220 volt 7HP motor. Currently the Giant Tumbler is loaded with 1,500 pounds of Montana Agate and 500 pounds of Garnets (for smoothing and polishing)." www.risingsunwholesale.com/gianttumbler.htm
