So in one of my recent estate purchases there was this extreemly thin slab of red Dino Bone. I thought it was a really nice piece of bone. I was blown away when I held it up to the light. It struck me that I could use it to make doublets. So that is what I did. Here is the first of 11 doublets. This is the biggest one 40mm x 30mm ![](http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/pp59/christopherlesso/CABOCHONS%20FOR%202011/DinoBone3.jpg) ![](http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/pp59/christopherlesso/CABOCHONS%20FOR%202011/DinoBone2.jpg) Check this out!! ![](http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/pp59/christopherlesso/CABOCHONS%20FOR%202011/DinoBone1.jpg)

A doublet is a composite with two components. This cab is made with Dino Bone and a Quartz cap. The bone was MAYBE 1/16" thick, much too thin to make a cab on its own. So I epoxied a bunch of quartz caps (11) of various sizes on the thin slab and now I will have a bunch of cabs of some killer material (in my opinion).

Thanks Mary Ann Here is the side view shot...my little cheapy camera had a heck of a time focusing in on the side...but I got it! ![](http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/pp59/christopherlesso/CABOCHONS%20FOR%202011/SideView.jpg) Looks like next time I will push down harder on the caps that way my epoxy line isn't as thick. Not so noticeable in hand and it will not be seen when set nevertheless I will still try and make this joint as near invisible as possible. Thanks for asking for the side shot, brought my attention to it.

Spencer Opal Mine 27 Opal Ave Spencer, ID 83446
Claudia Couture
(208) 374-5476
(928) 859-3752
It is best to call because they do not live in Idaho all year. They have caps and basalt (chunks and thin sliced) for backing.

Christopher that is beautiful! I would not have seen the epoxy line if you had not pointed it out. Great work.
