Many years ago while working in the design shop at Fleetwood Ent. motor home division, I was tasked with making drawer pulls incorporating a round cab into each. They wanted a dozen made, and it was an extra $200.00 of pay to make them at home on my own time. I took several different types of slabs in for the interior design girls to choose from. They fell in love with Lavic jasper. I managed to make a couple extras for myself. Just another use for this great hobby. Sorry for the beat up looking brass knob. This has been laying in a box with rocks for about 16 Yrs. Don

When they gave me the drawer pulls, they had oak inserts glued in. I had to remove the oak, and the contact cement. Rough up the surface, and epoxy the cabs in place. The cabs were all 27 MM x 1/4" rounds.

What a great idea, I am going to surprise my wife though it has been years since she has been in the kitchen. LOL Stu

Be careful Stu. You may create a monster. My wife just went out and bought all new handles for the kitchen cabinets and drawers. She wants me to replace the wood inserts with polished agate. All 22 of them.

Don, you're going to be like Ralph and be chained to your cabbing machine for 22 agate cabs. Camped at the cabbing machine for a day isn't such a bad thing, right! ;D

22 cabs wouldn't be too bad, but these are about 3" X 3/8", and slightly bowed out in the middle to about 1/2". Gonna need to cut a plexi template for these. And find lots of crack free slabs of matching material. Don

Cool pulls Don. I have knobs like that on my computer desk, and thought of doing the same thing. I'd only need 4 though lol.

If any of you go with this idea, please post pics so we can see how they came out. The inserts I have to make will be too long to grind and shape on the Genie, so I guess it's time to break out the Loretone 2 wheel setup. Haven't used the expando's and SC belts for a long time. This may take a little time getting used to again.

Those are great Jake! I fooled around with them a long time ago and found that the easiest way(for me) to make round ones was to cut slabs of the desired thickness, drill the slabs with diamond core drills, lightly round off the drilled edges on my Genie and then throw them into my Lot-O-Tumbler starting with a 400 grit and then run just like a normal load. They came out great.

Thanks, Connrock, I was thinking along these lines but haven't tried it yet. I was thinking that tumbling the preforms seemed pretty logical...glad to know it has worked for someone else before I try to re-invent the wheel. :-)

Heck I re-invent the wheel every day and still can't figure what to use it for! LOL
