I don't know why I find this fascinating but I've been watching these freaky looking mud wasps scavenge my slurry pile all summer. They show up one at a time, scoop the slurry with their mandibles and fly off. From what I understand, as scary as they look, they are pretty harmless to people. They are predatory wasps that hunt spiders. With all the cemented slurry they've been collecting, I can only assume that they will have one sturdy home. Here's a wasp collecting slurry: And this picture is cool, it is the slurry with all the mandible tracks in it: I'm not a big insect person by any means, but it's been kind of fun watching them carry off my rock slurry to build their home. ~Krystee

I don't know about sturdiness though. Whenever my slurry dries out, it doesn't stick together that well. Kinda crumbly. Maybe if they mix saliva with it...
