Hello, everyone!
We just returned from our summer vacation in Lesvos Island - Greece.
The first time we went there, it was me who chose the place, given the petrified forest on the island. I was happy back then (2007) that I was able to convince my "girls" to spend a vacation there so, just imagine how thrilled was I when they told me they'd like to visit again. And, this year it was the fourth time we went there. That place is really special and unique, we enjoyed it at least as much as in the previous trips.
We arrived in Kavala, and after a refreshing frappe...
...we took the ferry for a night-time trip to Lesvos
We arrived on the island and one of the first purchases was a couple of bottles of ouzo:
Anyway, this was only the top of the iceberg compared to all our ouzo "crop" till the end of the vacation
We also visited an old ouzo factory:
And then headed westward. It's fascinating how the landscape turns from lush green, in the Eastern side of the island...
... into a desert scene, in the western side.
But it's this desertic scenery I find fascinating. Besides, the petrified forest is located there, hehe! We visited it again, admiring and touching our favorite trees (OK, I even talked to some of them, but don't tell this to anyone ;D ) :
Besides, the beaches are larger and less crowded on this side.
We even found a beach only for us!
Here's a picture taken in the morning sun, with the village where we stayed in:
And some nature pics:
Can you spot the mantis here? Amazing how it blends into the straw vegetation
We also visited some picturesque places, with narrow steep streets and nice shops:
It was a great vacation. We felt great as we did every time we visited this place.
Oh, and if you wander why did I name this thread "ouzo on the rocks"...
...
this is why:
And here is a close-up of some of the beach rocks we found:
Thank you for looking,
Adrian
