Hello everyone, I'm new to this sight and haven't tumbled a rock in years until just a few weeks ago. I have been wanting to get back into the hobby, but there always seemed to be something else that came up. I have an endless supply of white, milky, and clear quartz to work with and would like to tumble it to jewelry grade...any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for such a great site and the wealth of information. Jay...(creekscavenger)

Welcome to the forum Jay!
If your quartz is like the stuff I find around here(and it sounds like the stuff you have is better than mine), you may have a lot of fracturing but it still makes a great tumble! Patients and a lot of filler after the initial shaping. Takes several course runs to get some good shapes and you have to watch it closely for the ones that want to continue chipping. Just keep pulling the ones out of course each week when you check them, that are ready to go on. When you have enough to go to the next level, continue on but add some filler. It slows down the process a bit but will save the quartz and make a better finished product. Good luck and welcome back to tumbling! Fran

Thanks so much for the information. The quartz here is pretty nice, but there is some with lots of fractures...I'm trying to be very careful not to use that. Thanks again! ;D
