A friend of mine brought in a pretty specimen of Fluorite to school the other day. It belonged to her late husband. She asked how it could be cleaned.
What can I use to remove dust from the specimen. Can I use water, or is some other method better? I just don't want to damage it.
Thanks much,
Lowell

Water and a mild liquid hand soap should do the trick. If you have one of those dental water pics, they're great for cleaning around hard to get places. Also an old, worn out soft toothbrush. Don

Hi Lowell,
I've worked a little bit of fluorite lately. If your piece is heavily fractured like all of mine is then be careful not to use too much pressure. I washed some fluorite with a standard garden hose nozzle. The water broke two of my pieces in half, right down a fracture line. I couldn't believe that standard garden hose nozzle pressure could break a stone, but it did for me, twice. ~Krystee
