Here's our weekend trip in a nutshell. Headed out early Saturday morning and hit San Diego by 10:30 am. Here's some pelicans hanging out on an old boat with the city in the background
We drove over to Coronado Island and enjoyed the beach there. Found this strange cluster on a shell, live critters.. not sure what
Barnacles maybe? Anyway they had these neat beach wheel chairs there available for people who needed them, looked like they had monster truck tires.. cool!
Military jets were flying over head
And there were huge fossiliferous rocks lining the road
Coming back over the big bridge
We checked into our room, cleaned up and went and had a great dinner. Next morning we headed for oceanside to an advertised 1$/ pound lapidary rock sale and found some great stuff. Came back down the coast hwy and hit a couple beach areas. Plenty of hungry squirrels running around

And dolphins that proved hard to photograph
One spot was just loaded with rocks.. so many and so little time
We stopped at a nice little Italian spot for lunch and continued back to our hotel to clean up and get ready for the evening. Here's a view from our room on the 10th floor
We walked a few blocks to the House of Blues for a terrific dinner, drinks and a show. A band we enjoy were closing out their American tour there last night, here's Jamie Hince and Allison Mossheart of The Kills
We had great seats just above the stage and they put on a killer show!!
Woke up this morning and drove back to Phoenix (sigh). Oh well, it was an amazing weekend!!
Here's a few rocks we found at the beach
Some sand dollars we found Saturday. Man i wrapped these in a towel, threw them in the back of the car and forgot about them. This morning we got in and yuck.. it smelt like death in there!
and rough I picked up at the sale. I'll try and get this cleaned up the next few day and post pics.. some really great stuff!
