Hi All We're fixing to start cutting up some really FAB slabs of Ocean Jasper ...all of which have LOTS of sparkly druzy pockets and edges.... we dont plan on putting any dome top on the cabs...just smoothing the edges and polishing them up real nice.. Question: would using a vibe tumbler work? or would it be better to work these by hand on our flat lap instead? We use small ceramic pellets in our VT's, but also have little plastic bb's that we can use instead. Bottom line, we want to protect all the sparkly parts....planning ahead! Thanks!!

Hi Judy, I did a really nice piece of OJ with a druzy. It was my 1st attempt at doing a cab with a druzy and it came out great. I did it on my diamond wheel cab machine with no problem. I am going to wrap it as soon as I learn to wrap. It looks much better than in the picture. i have a light box and some really cool photo lights on order. Will re shoot the piece when the photo equipment arrives. Some people say you can fill the druzy with shaved ivory soap when you are working on it but I don't know if that applies to the tumbler. Good Luck Stu forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=ccabs&action=display&thread=46692

I would imagine that tumble-polishing would wear down the druzy crystals and make the druze less 'glittery'. I would hand finish if I were you, but you can try both ways to see how much of a difference tumble polishing makes on the druzy.

No Judy I didn't use any soap Didn't learn about that until I was all done. I just let the stone speak to me and guid my hand. Jeff over at Dandy slabs has some I think it is called River Jaspar. It looks just like OJ only it has a lot of druzies. I was thinking of getting some love those druzies:) Stu

YES! His Indonesian Orbicular River Jasper with black druzy pockets is to die for!! Jeff is my "go to" guy for slabs and he only has one showing available, so you might want to hurry LOL I got the other one - literally just got it this week.. it's gorgeous!! I've picked up several of his white/green OJ's and they're all loaded with druzy pockets and along the edges...
I've actually been collecting slabs for awhile now... Esciguy on Ebay is another great seller
