Another of my long list of "things I'm gonna do with rocks, someday" is making dice, like these: www.dicecollector.com/THE_DICE_THEME_STONE.htmlThe cubes, tetrahedrons and octahedrons would be fairly easy to preshape, then I'd just toss them in the tumbler through fine grit, grind out the spots with a dremel and jig (so they're more even), and back into tumble to polish probably. Next step is figuring out how to do the dodecahedrons and icosahedrons without a faceting machine. There must be a simpler jig. Same for the merkabah stars, I recently saw one on ebay carved from stone. The stones with higher numbers of faces wouldn't be numbered, just cut that way to enjoy as gems. V

Well I saw cheap ones at import stores, and thought it might be a good way to show off some of my favorite finds that I only have a small amount of. Did you see the big 4" ones near the bottom of the page?

I made a pair of aluminum six-sided dice as a calibration project after I rebuilt the X-Y-Z machining mill at my old work. I got them to less than 0.001" of tolerance, masterfully fly-cut and ballanced, chamferred & drilled to perfection. I was going to polish & anodize them with a hot cherry flame color for the ultimate finishing touch but I ended up putting them on the back burner & it never got done.

Those are pretty amazing dice. I imagine you would have to pick a durable stone to make them from as to avoid chipping as they are rolled. I once saw a set of dice-like shapes at a rock show. They came in a little box, but did not have numbers. Steve
