Howdy folks, This afternoon my wife and I were invited to a neighbor's place so he could show off his new Amish built farm wagon that's drawn by one of his Percherons. We went for a real neat hour long ride and man that big horse hauled us up and down hills with ease and even seemed to be enjoying the trip. Got to say though, that even with modern wheels, wagons ride pretty rough and I don't know how the settlers were able to travel for weeks on stages or months on horse or oxen drawn wagons with wood and metal wheels. Those olden folks were tough. Anyway, here's a pic of our friends, Nowena the percheron and the new vehicle...Mel

Nowena's a beautiful horse, and that's a nice looking wagon, Mel. Sounds like a fun little trip.

Does not look like Noweena had any problem pulling that rig. Still looks like a lot of fun will ensue in the future. Years ago, on an Australian trip, I had the opportunity to go for a stage ride. the driver when to full gallop for about five minutes............the longest five minutes of my life! The body of a Concord stage is well sprung, and at that speed, probably less than twenty miles per hour, the coach body was able to move in all directions at the same time. The movies make this look like something that was done frequently, for long distances, but my experience on a well graded dirt rode changed my ideas on that. Woody

That horse looks very powerful! Looks like a lot of fun, even if it is a very bumpy ride! Fran

*L* I'm a little ashamed I got her name mixed up. She's actually "Neona". She's saddle broke too and I've been invited to saddle her up for a ride someday soon. Should be interesting as she's over 19 hands and I don't know if I can step up on a saddle that high. Not to mention that, though the saddle is an Aussie rig like I often use on Hopper, the saddle is huge! Even at about six four and being long leggety, it's gonna be a stretch to wrap my legs around that gal *L*. Gonna feel like I ought to have on armor and a sword on a horse that huge. Oh yeah, I helped harness her up for a wagon ride the other day and man, what a complicated set up. What a sweet tempered horse too. She just stood all calm and nice through the whole routine. Even when part of the harness goes under her tail. Hopper would've kicked me into next Tuesday if I'd messed with his tail like that *L*...Mel
