That Zebra Agate is some pretty neat material. I have not seen any of it at the shows here on the west coast.

Christopher, I think this stuff is from Brazil... but Randy needs to chime in to verify! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

I agree that the Zebra agate material is top-notch material. I am a bit confused by the name, however, as I did not know that Zebras came in green... ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Actually, the Green zebra is from the Deccan Plateau of India. Green because it's the same region, bloodstone, green tree and green moss comes from. Friggin Astrogalley and some of the other sellers have been messing up the location on this stuff for years. By the way, freaking awesome cab!...Mel

Mel, I have some of the India stuff too, a 25 pound chunk of it. They look similar, but the India stuff seems harder. The Brazil stuff comes in various hardnesses, some can't be tumbled but all of it shines up great on the Genie.

Randy: That hardness issue runs true with Indian material ( some is actually chalky) and I've actually seen the green zebra at a rockshop in drums being opened that was definitely Indian material and so marked. Maybe there is a Brazilian form too ( there is Brazilian Zebra jasper agate in black and brown tones) as sometimes same geology in different places creates identical deposits, but I think it more likely that a wholesaler that supplies retailers or the retailer has simply got their labels mixed up when selling the green material. That color green is just not very common in gemstones and India has huge deposits of the green jaspers and agates that they've exported for years.. Heck, then again I may be wrong. Brazil is a huge place with lots of agate. *L*......Mel
PS: Randy I did a web search after I wrote this and I did find several pics of green zebra that listed southern Brazil as origin so I'm thinking this might be a case of identical material from widely different locations ( like Calico Agate from both Africa and Mexico). Guess I'll not know for sure until I see a raw batch imported in Brazilian barrels because no books in my library mention anything except India. Maybe Zenz's book three which is supposed to be heavy on jasper will include it.

Yeah, I did a search too, same thing. They do look identical though. The only thing I can say for sure is that my green zebra agates come from the internet. ;D
