I was about to say that second one looked like Petosky stone... A bit far south for those aren't you Ted?

Nope find them quite often . They`ve been called petoskey stones because of the concentration there .

Cool! Didn't know we had theme here in IL too... I never saw any where I was in SE Michigan... That cab really looks identical to the stuff up around Petosky!

Glaciers brought them here . lose finds , not sure bout there , but glaciers may have brought them there too.

Nice! I worked some petoskey stone I found in glacial drift in Ohio. Took a surprisingly good polish.

Thanks! I posted my bail wrap and that is a big part of my style of wrapping now. One of the things I do is to make sure that I have enough wire in the bundle to accomodate the thickness of the stone so one strand gets bent for the back and the rest to the center and front bent in a stepped fashion. I bend three for the front always and off set the bends as I think it looks best most of the time. I have done some stones that looked better with the bends mirrored.
