Hey all. Some people have been wondering about a good source for the Koroit Boulder Opal, so here's where the stuff has been coming from. I just checked his auctions again and all cheaper lots are gone, but when you consider that a single cab can fetch $100, the lots he has still are a good price. stores.ebay.com/Koroit-OpalPlease note, this material will not tumble, it is for cabbing only.

I also highly recemend Gene. his is the only vendor i will buy Koroit opal from online. Becasue he can offer quanity and he mines most of his materials. And his lots of over 10pounds can produce hundreds of cabochons. I recently got a 12# parcel in from Gene for under $100. And so far i have cut 2 dozen cabochons from it, and ive only used maybe a pound worth of it!
The material can be teadouse to work, and is very messy. I agree with Ed too it not for tumbling. Though you can use a tumbler to finish the gems, use something like a bench grinder or dremel to expose the fire frist. And remember, even then you still can get very soft ironstone. One of the pieces i cut yesterday has some extra fine green fire over 25% of the cab. BUt the ironstore is so soft there no way it will polish. So i may stablize the peice because the fire flash is so nice.
BUt if you shop around for rough or proven Koroits. YOu find this vendors prices are excellent.
