Does anyone know of some good spots in the Chadron, NE/Hot Springs, SD area to look for agates. Prairie agates, bubblegums, fairburns, ect. I have the Midwest trails book but it sounded like some of those areas might possibly be closed now.
Thanks!!!

Most of the good agates will be found north of Crawford.. Best to take the 11 mile cut across to toadstool.. You will be able to see sugarloaf hill.. this will a good plase for you to start looking.

Kate, just about any exposed gravel in the grasslands is a good place to look. Most private land will be fenced and posted. You might want to stop at a Forest Service office and pick up a copy of the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands map. They're a little bit expensive, but well worth the money. I understand that they printed a revised map this year, so I'll have to pick up a new one next year.
