this is a lap donated to my club last week ! Weired looking. I think it is homemade as I can find no name anywhere. How do yall think I should refurb it? I am thinking take the wheels off the front and keep the polisher and the 10 inch saw. I am a little bit apprehensive letting newbees try to use it as it sits even if it is cleaned. The gravity feed rock holder is unique and is impressive. I await you advice!! ;D Also any one got a motor cheep ? Thanks Dicky

Wow thats a scary looking machine you got there. Does the saw run while the other wheels run too? Looks dangerous to me. I will have to think about that one for a while. Just as a start I would take the wheels off. Hmmmm

There appears to be a name on the spray guard over the blade. What is it ? The stand that holds the swing arm vice looks like the stand on a piece of equipment that I have. I suspect that all of the wheels were someones home built add ons. My guess would be that it started life as a swing arm saw. The stand and other aluminum castings look like something made by Victor. (Yes, the same Victor that makes welding torches).

Necessity is the mother of invention.
I don't think it looks too dangerous. With one person using it, you're in a different position at each "station", and basically out of the way of the other moving parts.
I think it's pretty cool! Clean 'er up and give it a whirl.

It is an "O-GRIZ-O as it states on the side! I can remember this machine from year ago. Perhaps I can find an old Lapidary Journal that has an ad in it I can mail to you. I don't remember if all wheels turned at the same time but believe they did. Jim

I found a mention of a rock shop in Boone, Iowa, called O-Griz-O Rock Shop. Probably would have been in existence in the "50s or so. In days past, it seems a lot of rock shops built or sold lapidary equipment under their own name (and some still do). This may have been one such item. After searching three major lapidary sites and going on three different search engines, this is all I could find so far.
Good luck

Hi, i found this thread on a google search, joined the forum. I also have one of these to refurbish. Did you get your refurbished? Was my Dad's and Grandpa's. Hasn't been used since 1971. Looking forward to making it work again. Any advice? Thanks Keith
