Hubby and I took went out hunting rocks today, went just a couple miles from where we live to a very small, abandoned fluorite mine... found a small untapped vein and this is a few of the best pieces we dug out: Very dark purple on top and dark blue on bottom Dark blue: Green More green: We dont know what this one is but it's very black throughout with these black crystals on the end...reddish tint, but black We had a great time - thanks for looking! The only problem with flourite is its softness. You can grind through the piece in no time if you aren't careful. It does shine up nice though.

Nice score Judy!!! Have you worked a lot of fluorite? It is sooooo beautiful polished but be careful, if there are fracture planes in them, then even high water pressure can break them. Only stone I've ever been able to break with water I understand that they fluoresce blue under uv light too! (I don't have one though ) Btw.... those purples you scored are GORGEOUS!

We have no experience with flourite... and we actually havent done anything with them yet LOL ... with the exception of a very small pale purple chunk - just to see what it would do... lots of fractures in it. It did take a great polish though. We're going to save the bigger pieces until we know more what we're doing
