Crystalite made um. A real lapidary machine designed for lapidary.
And Crystalite...they are still #1 in the diamond abrasives industry.
They quit making them when the company was sold around 1974. (more money in industrial abrasives end than a lapidary machine).
Well if you have one. You have a little jewel.
They are a fantastic machine.
This machine was designed for lapidaries and was expensive when new. Most of them even today are in very good condition as their owners cherished and took very good care of them. Because there were no more after then and everyone adapted whatever their was at hand for a rock grinder. The design was patented yet never produced so it died. Not because it wasen't a great design. Because diamond lapidary was a byproduct of industrial diamond abrasives.
If you have one I can help you bring it into the 21st century.
Even if you only have part of one. We can bring it back.
A complete set of new diamonds.. for about $120... And thats not one or two grits.... Nine..
9 diamond grit disc.
100..180..260...360...400...600...1200...1800.....3000.....
A magnetic backer.
A couple few of the flex discs. and some diamond paste
I normaly only use 3 different diamond flex prepolishes . You realy need 5 or so diamond paste levels to do all the different stones you will come across. ..)
And then there is the polish... Ahhhh the polish...
The most important part.
That last thing you can do to make that stone look WOW.
The ole Diamond Demons are VS. You can turn the RPMs down to polish. You can even go slower or faster. Which is such an advantage when you have a new material ( most of it is) and you are trying to find what makes the stone pop. And you can switch from Aluminum Oxide to Cerium Oxide to Tin Oxide and then having to repolish with one because it looked better with the first polish. And most cerium manufacturers recomend a low SFPM so the oxides can grab and move the surface molecules.. Just spin one polish off and spin the right polish on.
Shine?...... Makes um look like there's water on um.
Here's what they look like.
I converted the dollars into today and thats about a $2,500.00 machine.
This is, and was built as a professional lapidary machine.
Unlike the old grinders.
If you have an old Demon. Get it out and polish it up.
Even if you only use it for a polisher which is what it realy shines at (pun intended). It is a fantastic machine.
Those little Demons will do way more than any Genie ever thought of...
LOL Try flat lapping a prime wood or dryhead specimen on a Genie. It will look like you ran it over a wash board..
Wanna cut sapphires? Yes it does. They cut like butter.
Even if you are ashamed of owning one. You can PM me I will help you get her going. lol
Even if she is abused. These machines are almost indistructable.
We can put in new hi ABEC bearings and make it sing.
Motors. I'll help you fix yours or we'll get you one.
Variable speed controls. I will help you repair or replace it. No problem.
I am the proud owner of one old war horse I have used and abused. It has yet to need bearings. I put a Fanuc servo motor with encoder and tachometer even used its a $1,500 motor. lol
And a used industrial VS drive that sits on the table beside it. $30..Used from local industrial surplus supply..
It is my monster grinder. About 1/4" of rock snot on the sides is putting it litely. There is at least 1/2" in the tray.
And there is my second one. A perfect original 1972 model I take to our digs for the kids to cut on. I have 9 yr olds cut pretty good stones by their selves, first time. They love it.
I didn't tell you ... Its much more friendly than a Genie.....
And its easyer for beginners.
But crank it up and the Diamond Demon can be vicious.
I love these old machines. I hope I can help you bring yours up to date. And you can have a hot little Demon to cut and polish gems and minerals on.
