I am on a business trip in Northern CA right now. I don't have any experience of the area as far as collecting goes. I will have a day or two extra while here and will likely be in the Sonoma, Petaluma and Point Reyes Station areas.

I didn't think to bring any tools with me so would love to find a place to go surface collecting if anyone knows a spot or two. Even a beach area that might be worth collecting at would be great fun.

Any of the rocky beaches north of San Francisco Bay will have several types of jasper including poppy jasper. Pope Valley has fine poppy jasper and other types but access is about impossible unless you know a rancher. Good obsidian, artifacts and Lake County Diamonds ( quartz crystal) around Clear Lake. As with most northern California sites it's hard to find a place that's not private though.....Mel
