I see that a lot of people myself included are cleaning up old and used equipment. One of the best products I have found for removing rock sediment and rust is a product made by Zep called Calcium, Lime and Rust remover. It comes in a gallon jug. I bought it at home depot cost about 10.00. I used it full strength. IT WILL REMOVE PAINT AT FULL STRENGTH. Or at least it did for me. It will burn your hands if you do not use gloves. I wanted to pull my equipment down to bare metal for repainting and was surprised when it did. I have used a brass brush and some sand paper in a few places. Before After I had already cleaned by hand the left hand side and it has taken me hours, I wish I had found the product earlier. I wrapped an old clean sock around it a poured it on and left it alone for about 20-30 min and sprayed it with clean water. You may find a little residual rock dust after it dries, but it comes of with a simple pass of a brass brush. Hope this will help someone with their cleaning process. I have no ties to the Zep Corp. but sure do like their product. BeLinda

Looks like you pulled a genie out of a bottle to clean your genie. Thanks for the tip, I'll be trying it.

Wow that sure cleaned up nice. Do you think it would leave the paint on if it was diluted? I got some pretty gunky equipment myself. Steve

I have a saw that had some oil in it long enough to turn it into an extremely stick varnish that is almost impossible to remove, I finially gave up and just left it.

Warren, penetrating oils like WD40 do wonders as a solvent to remove petrified rock snot.

I had the same type of buildup on my Genie motor. I sprayed it with that orange cleaner and let it sit for a while. It removed all of the buildup, without removing the paint.
